A unique sculpture by the Belgian artist Philippe Desomberg (1945-2021), created in 1986-1987 and carved from a single block of precious Carrara marble. The work is signed and dated "Ph. Desomberg 1986-87" in the stone.
Measuring 58 × 134 × 30 cm, the sculpture demonstrates Desomberg's distinctive approach to the human figure and to the materiality of stone. Rather than concealing the process of carving beneath a uniformly polished surface, the artist deliberately preserves the marks of his chisels and areas of untouched marble. These contrasts between worked and raw surfaces are central to his sculptural language.
